Feeding a large dog here

Diet is simpler than most guides make it. Good food suited to a large frame, fixed mealtimes, and any change phased in over a week. Because comfortable temperatures for most of the year make routine care straightforward, keep water available and watch intake through the brief pre-monsoon heat.

Is the Pointer Puppy right for Chivemla?

Chivemla is pleasant semi-tropical — comfortable temperatures for most of the year make routine care straightforward — and the Pointer Puppy is a large-sized, loyal, loving, confident breed. Those two facts decide most of what daily life looks like here. A breed this size needs its hard exercise moved to the cooler hours. Maintain a regular grooming routine suited to the breed's coat.

Exercise and routine through the brief pre-monsoon heat in Chivemla

The brief pre-monsoon heat is the stretch that needs planning. Comfortable temperatures for most of the year make routine care straightforward, so split the activity across two cooler outings rather than one long session. Consistency does more for a Pointer Puppy than intensity ever will. Provide shade and water during the short hot spell before the monsoon.

Living with a Pointer Puppy in Chivemla

Larger plots and open surroundings make this a comfortable setting for an active Pointer Puppy. With more room to work with, the routine can stay informal, though it should still be regular.

The first week

The first week is about routine, not excitement. Feed at consistent times, let the puppy approach people in its own time rather than being passed around, and keep the diet unchanged at first.

Chivemla is hottest in May, averaging 41°C in the afternoon, and stays above 38°C from March to May. A Pointer needs real protection from that because a large body sheds heat slowly: walks before 8 am and after 7 pm, a cool tiled floor or a cooler in the afternoons, fresh water in more than one place, and never a parked car.

Winters are mild, with December nights around 16°C, so cold is not a concern.

Most of the year's rain falls in August. Check for ticks after every walk; dry inside the ears after baths and rain, since droopy ears trap moisture.

For a new Pointer puppy, the easiest months to arrive are October to February: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
