Feeding a large dog here

Feed age-appropriate food matched to a large build, and change brands gradually rather than overnight. In mild tropical plateau conditions water matters as much as food — the plateau climate is relatively moderate, which suits a wide range of breeds, and appetite often dips before anything else shows.

The first week

The first week is about routine, not excitement. Feed at consistent times, let the puppy approach people in its own time rather than being passed around, and keep the diet unchanged at first.

Space and the outdoors with a Greyhound Puppy

Space is rarely the constraint here; the routine is what needs attention. For a gentle, quiet, fast dog the fit is usually good either way.

Exercise and routine through the brief pre-monsoon heat in Kondapur

The brief pre-monsoon heat is the stretch that needs planning. The plateau climate is relatively moderate, which suits a wide range of breeds, so split the activity across two cooler outings rather than one long session. Consistency does more for a Greyhound Puppy than intensity ever will. Provide shade and water during the short hot spell before the monsoon.

Living with a Greyhound Puppy in Kondapur

Homes here often have more space and independent plots, which gives a Greyhound Puppy room to move and settle in comfortably. With more room to work with, the routine can stay informal, though it should still be regular.

Kondapur is hottest in May, averaging 42°C in the afternoon, and stays above 38°C from March to May. A Greyhound needs real protection from that because a large body sheds heat slowly: walks before 8 am and after 7 pm, a cool tiled floor or a cooler in the afternoons, fresh water in more than one place, and never a parked car.

Winters are mild, with December nights around 15°C, so cold is not a concern.

The rainy season runs from July to August, and August is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk.

For a new Greyhound puppy, the easiest months to arrive are October to February: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
