Exercise and routine through the cold winter season in Devprayag

Build the day around local conditions rather than a figure from a breed chart. In Devprayag, winters get genuinely cold, so warmth and joint care take priority, which makes timing the variable that matters. Two shorter outings work better here for a breed this size. Check paws for cracking and ice between toes during the coldest months.

Feeding a large dog here

Diet is simpler than most guides make it. Good food suited to a large frame, fixed mealtimes, and any change phased in over a week. Because winters get genuinely cold, so warmth and joint care take priority, keep water available and watch intake through the cold winter season.

Space and the outdoors with a Afghan Hound Puppy

Homes around Devprayag usually come with their own ground, which takes the pressure off a formal exercise plan. A breed this size needs that outdoor time to be dependable, not occasional.

Summer here peaks in May at about 33°C. That is manageable for a Afghan Hound, but watch it closely because a large body sheds heat slowly: keep activity to the cooler ends of the day and a shaded, ventilated spot indoors.

Winter nights drop to about 4°C in January. A Afghan Hound copes well with cold, but a puppy still needs a warm, draught-free bed for its first winter.

The rainy season runs from June to September, and July is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk; dry inside the ears after baths and rain, since droopy ears trap moisture.

For a new Afghan Hound puppy, the easiest months to arrive are February, March, April, May, October and November: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
