Is the Kanni Puppy right for Lansdowne?

Lansdowne is cool hill — winters get genuinely cold, so warmth and joint care take priority — and the Kanni Puppy is a large-sized, loyal, shy, alert breed. Those two facts decide most of what daily life looks like here. A breed this size needs its hard exercise moved to the cooler hours. Keep up daily exercise — the cool weather is ideal for longer, more active walks.

Living with a Kanni Puppy in Lansdowne

Larger plots and open surroundings make this a comfortable setting for an active Kanni Puppy. With more room to work with, the routine can stay informal, though it should still be regular.

Feeding a large dog here

Feed age-appropriate food matched to a large build, and change brands gradually rather than overnight. In cool hill conditions water matters as much as food — winters get genuinely cold, so warmth and joint care take priority, and appetite often dips before anything else shows.

Exercise and routine through the cold winter season in Lansdowne

The cold winter season is the stretch that needs planning. Winters get genuinely cold, so warmth and joint care take priority, so split the activity across two cooler outings rather than one long session. Consistency does more for a Kanni Puppy than intensity ever will. Provide a warm, draught-free sleeping spot and a coat for short-haired breeds in winter.

The first week

Expect a quiet few days. Most puppies eat less and sleep more while they settle. Keep the food the same as before the move, introduce the household gradually rather than all at once, and hold off on visitors for a bit.

The city sits at about 1,701 m above sea level, so it runs cooler than the plains around it.

Summers here are mild, peaking at about 30°C in May, so heat is rarely the problem for a Kanni that it is on the plains.

Winter nights fall to about 2°C in January. A Kanni feels that: bedding raised off the floor, a sweater or warm cover at night, and a room kept out of the draught.

The rainy season runs from June to September, and July is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk.

For a new Kanni puppy, the easiest months to arrive are April to May: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
