The first week

The first week is about routine, not excitement. Feed at consistent times, let the puppy approach people in its own time rather than being passed around, and keep the diet unchanged at first.

Space and the outdoors with a Kanni Puppy

Space is rarely the constraint here; the routine is what needs attention. For a loyal, shy, alert dog the fit is usually good either way.

Exercise and routine through the cold winter season in Pratapnagar

The cold winter season is the stretch that needs planning. Winters get genuinely cold, so warmth and joint care take priority, so split the activity across two cooler outings rather than one long session. Consistency does more for a Kanni Puppy than intensity ever will. Older pets may need joint support as cold can stiffen movement.

Is the Kanni Puppy right for Pratapnagar?

Pratapnagar is cold mountain — winters get genuinely cold, so warmth and joint care take priority — and the Kanni Puppy is a large-sized, loyal, shy, alert breed. Those two facts decide most of what daily life looks like here. A breed this size needs its hard exercise moved to the cooler hours. Keep up daily exercise — the cool weather is ideal for longer, more active walks.

Feeding a large dog here

Feed age-appropriate food matched to a large build, and change brands gradually rather than overnight. In cold mountain conditions water matters as much as food — winters get genuinely cold, so warmth and joint care take priority, and appetite often dips before anything else shows.

Summers here are mild, peaking at about 26°C in June, so heat is rarely the problem for a Kanni that it is on the plains.

Winter nights fall to about -1°C in January. A Kanni feels that: bedding raised off the floor, a sweater or warm cover at night, and a room kept out of the draught.

The rainy season runs from June to September, and July is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk.

For a new Kanni puppy, the easiest months to arrive are May: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
