The first week

The first week is about routine, not excitement. Feed at consistent times, let the bird approach people in its own time rather than being passed around, and keep the diet unchanged at first.

Is the Rainbow Lorikeet right for Devarapalli?

Start with the weather, not the breed standard. Here the sea-influenced humidity makes ventilation and dry bedding important, and a small-sized bird feels that more than an owner expects. The Rainbow Lorikeet adapts well to Devarapalli on a sensible routine — steady hydration and shade rather than reduced activity. Dry the coat and ears thoroughly after baths or rain to prevent fungal and skin issues.

Feeding a small bird here

Feed age-appropriate food matched to a small build, and change brands gradually rather than overnight. In humid coastal conditions water matters as much as food — the sea-influenced humidity makes ventilation and dry bedding important, and appetite often dips before anything else shows.

Living with a Rainbow Lorikeet in Devarapalli

Larger plots and open surroundings make this a comfortable setting for an active Rainbow Lorikeet. Owners across South India tend to find this bird a family friendly, good with kids companion, and the settling-in is usually easier than the first week suggests.

Grooming and coat care in Devarapalli

The aim is dry, clean skin — appearance comes second. Devarapalli being humid coastal, the sea-influenced humidity makes ventilation and dry bedding important, so a regular brush prevents most of what would otherwise become a vet visit. Dry the coat and ears thoroughly after baths or rain to prevent fungal and skin issues.

Devarapalli is hottest in May, averaging 40°C in the afternoon, and stays above 38°C from April to May. A Rainbow Lorikeet needs real protection from that: a cage well away from windows and direct sun, a shallow bath dish, and a room that stays under about 32°C.

Winters are mild, with December nights around 14°C, so cold is not a concern.

The rainy season runs from July to September, and September is usually the wettest month. Keep the cage out of damp corners and change the paper daily.

For a new Rainbow Lorikeet bird, the easiest months to arrive are January, February, June, October, November and December: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
