Feeding a small to medium bird here

Diet is simpler than most guides make it. Good food suited to a small to medium frame, fixed mealtimes, and any change phased in over a week. Because the air stays humid through much of the year, so coat and skin care need attention, keep water available and watch intake through the long monsoon.

The first week

The first week is about routine, not excitement. Feed at consistent times, let the bird approach people in its own time rather than being passed around, and keep the diet unchanged at first.

Grooming and coat care in Srisailam

Let the weather set the schedule, not the calendar. With the air stays humid through much of the year, so coat and skin care need attention, a Cockatiel's coat and skin want checking more often through the long monsoon. On a smaller coat, irritation shows up well before matting does. Dry the coat and ears thoroughly after baths or rain to prevent fungal and skin issues.

Health and vet care in Srisailam

Local climate decides which problems actually turn up. Given the air stays humid through much of the year, so coat and skin care need attention, the recurring ones here are skin and coat trouble, parasites and hydration — not the whole textbook. Keep vaccination and deworming on schedule, and book the check before the long monsoon rather than during it. Keep bedding dry and the resting area well-ventilated, especially during the monsoon.

Space and the outdoors with a Cockatiel

Homes around Srisailam usually come with their own ground, which takes the pressure off a formal exercise plan. A small to medium-sized breed manages this well when the outdoor time is genuinely regular.

Srisailam is hottest in April, averaging 39°C in the afternoon, and stays above 38°C from April to May. A Cockatiel needs real protection from that: a cage well away from windows and direct sun, a shallow bath dish, and a room that stays under about 32°C.

Winters are mild, with January nights around 15°C, so cold is not a concern.

Most of the year's rain falls in September. Keep the cage out of damp corners and change the paper daily.

For a new Cockatiel bird, the easiest months to arrive are January, February, June, October, November and December: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
