The first week

Expect a quiet few days. Most birds eat less and sleep more while they settle. Keep the food the same as before the move, introduce the household gradually rather than all at once, and hold off on visitors for a bit.

Feeding a small bird here

Diet is simpler than most guides make it. Good food suited to a small frame, fixed mealtimes, and any change phased in over a week. Because the wide seasonal range means both cooling in summer and warmth in winter matter, keep water available and watch intake through the peak summer and winter swings.

Larger plots and open surroundings make this a comfortable setting for an active Dusky Lorikeet. Owners across the heartland tend to find this bird a family friendly, good with kids companion, and the settling-in is usually easier than the first week suggests.

Space and the outdoors with a Dusky Lorikeet

Homes around Aron usually come with their own ground, which takes the pressure off a formal exercise plan. A small-sized breed manages this well when the outdoor time is genuinely regular.

Exercise and routine through the peak summer and winter swings in Aron

The peak summer and winter swings is the stretch that needs planning. The wide seasonal range means both cooling in summer and warmth in winter matter, so keep sessions short and frequent. Consistency does more for a Dusky Lorikeet than intensity ever will. Keep deworming and vaccination on schedule — seasonal changes can stress the immune system.

Aron is hottest in May, averaging 42°C in the afternoon, and stays above 38°C from April to June. A Dusky Lorikeet needs real protection from that: a cage well away from windows and direct sun, a shallow bath dish, and a room that stays under about 32°C.

Winters are cool rather than cold, with January nights around 8°C. A light sweater helps a small Dusky Lorikeet on the coldest nights.

The rainy season runs from July to August, and July is usually the wettest month. Keep the cage out of damp corners and change the paper daily.

For a new Dusky Lorikeet bird, the easiest months to arrive are March, September, October and November: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
