Feeding a small bird here

Diet is simpler than most guides make it. Good food suited to a small frame, fixed mealtimes, and any change phased in over a week. Because summers are long and intense, so heat management is the single biggest priority, keep water available and watch intake through the dry summer months.

Grooming and coat care in Batadu

Let the weather set the schedule, not the calendar. With summers are long and intense, so heat management is the single biggest priority, a Dusky Lorikeet's coat and skin want checking more often through the dry summer months. On a smaller coat, irritation shows up well before matting does. Watch for signs of overheating — heavy panting, drooling or lethargy — during peak afternoons.

The first week

Expect a quiet few days. Most birds eat less and sleep more while they settle. Keep the food the same as before the move, introduce the household gradually rather than all at once, and hold off on visitors for a bit.
