Those two facts decide most of what daily life looks like here. A breed this size copes well, provided shade and water are always within reach. Watch for signs of overheating — heavy panting, drooling or lethargy — during peak afternoons.

The first week

Expect a quiet few days. Most kittens eat less and sleep more while they settle. Keep the food the same as before the move, introduce the household gradually rather than all at once, and hold off on visitors for a bit.

Modasa is hottest in May, averaging 43°C in the afternoon, and stays above 38°C from April to June. A Bombay needs real protection from that: a cool room with the curtains drawn in the afternoon, a tiled floor to lie on, and fresh water in more than one place.

Winters are cool rather than cold, with January nights around 11°C.

The rainy season runs from July to August, and July is usually the wettest month. Dry the coat right down to the skin after it gets wet, or it can develop skin infections.

For a new Bombay kitten, the easiest months to arrive are September to February: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
