The first week

The first week is about routine, not excitement. Feed at consistent times, let the kitten approach people in its own time rather than being passed around, and keep the diet unchanged at first.

Exercise and routine through the dry summer months in Vadnagar

Build the day around local conditions rather than a figure from a breed chart. In Vadnagar, the dry heat means hydration and shade matter more than almost anything else, which makes timing the variable that matters. Several brief outings suit this size better than one long one. A light summer trim (for double-coated breeds, never shave to the skin) helps comfort.

Living with a Himalayan Kittens in Vadnagar

With independent houses common, there is usually room for a medium-sized breed to exercise at home. With more room to work with, the routine can stay informal, though it should still be regular.

Feeding a medium cat here

Diet is simpler than most guides make it. Good food suited to a medium frame, fixed mealtimes, and any change phased in over a week. Because the dry heat means hydration and shade matter more than almost anything else, keep water available and watch intake through the dry summer months.

Health and vet care in Vadnagar

Local climate decides which problems actually turn up. Given the dry heat means hydration and shade matter more than almost anything else, the recurring ones here are skin and coat trouble, parasites and hydration — not the whole textbook. Keep vaccination and deworming on schedule, and book the check before the dry summer months rather than during it. A light summer trim (for double-coated breeds, never shave to the skin) helps comfort.

Vadnagar is hottest in May, averaging 42°C in the afternoon, and stays above 38°C from April to June. A Himalayan needs real protection from that because its short muzzle makes panting less effective at shedding heat and its double coat holds heat close to the body: a cool room with the curtains drawn in the afternoon, a tiled floor to lie on, and fresh water in more than one place.

Winters are cool rather than cold, with January nights around 11°C.

The rainy season runs from July to August, and August is usually the wettest month. Dry the coat right down to the skin after it gets wet, or it can develop skin infections.

For a new Himalayan kitten, the easiest months to arrive are November to February: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
