Living with a Scottish Fold in Kozhikode

Larger plots and open surroundings make this a comfortable setting for an active Scottish Fold. With more room to work with, the routine can stay informal, though it should still be regular.

Is the Scottish Fold right for Kozhikode?

Start with the weather, not the breed standard. Here the air stays humid through much of the year, so coat and skin care need attention, and a small-sized cat feels that more than an owner expects. The Scottish Fold adapts well to Kozhikode on a sensible routine — steady hydration and shade rather than reduced activity. Brush regularly — humidity makes mats and tangles form faster in longer coats.

The first week

The first week is about routine, not excitement. Feed at consistent times, let the kitten approach people in its own time rather than being passed around, and keep the diet unchanged at first.

Exercise and routine through the long monsoon in Kozhikode

The long monsoon is the stretch that needs planning. The air stays humid through much of the year, so coat and skin care need attention, so keep sessions short and frequent. Consistency does more for a Scottish Fold than intensity ever will. Dry the coat and ears thoroughly after baths or rain to prevent fungal and skin issues.

Health and vet care in Kozhikode

Local climate decides which problems actually turn up. Given the air stays humid through much of the year, so coat and skin care need attention, the recurring ones here are skin and coat trouble, parasites and hydration — not the whole textbook. Keep vaccination and deworming on schedule, and book the check before the long monsoon rather than during it. Dry the coat and ears thoroughly after baths or rain to prevent fungal and skin issues.

Summers here are mild, peaking at about 32°C in March, so heat is rarely the problem for a Scottish Fold that it is on the plains.

Winters stay warm, with even January nights around 25°C, so there is no cold season to plan for.

The rainy season runs from May to October, and June is usually the wettest month. Dry the coat right down to the skin after it gets wet, or it can develop skin infections.

For a new Scottish Fold kitten, the easiest months to arrive are December to April: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
