Grooming and coat care in Risod

Let the weather set the schedule, not the calendar. With the air stays humid through much of the year, so coat and skin care need attention, a Bombay Kittens's coat and skin want checking more often through the long monsoon. On a smaller coat, irritation shows up well before matting does. Brush regularly — humidity makes mats and tangles form faster in longer coats.

Is the Bombay Kittens right for Risod?

Start with the weather, not the breed standard. Here the air stays humid through much of the year, so coat and skin care need attention, and a medium-sized cat feels that more than an owner expects. The Bombay Kittens adapts well to Risod on a sensible routine — steady hydration and shade rather than reduced activity. Brush regularly — humidity makes mats and tangles form faster in longer coats.

The first week

The first week is about routine, not excitement. Feed at consistent times, let the kitten approach people in its own time rather than being passed around, and keep the diet unchanged at first.

Feeding a medium cat here

Feed age-appropriate food matched to a medium build, and change brands gradually rather than overnight. In warm and humid conditions water matters as much as food — the air stays humid through much of the year, so coat and skin care need attention, and appetite often dips before anything else shows.

Health and vet care in Risod

Local climate decides which problems actually turn up. Given the air stays humid through much of the year, so coat and skin care need attention, the recurring ones here are skin and coat trouble, parasites and hydration — not the whole textbook. Keep vaccination and deworming on schedule, and book the check before the long monsoon rather than during it. Keep bedding dry and the resting area well-ventilated, especially during the monsoon.

Risod is hottest in May, averaging 42°C in the afternoon, and stays above 38°C from April to May. A Bombay needs real protection from that: a cool room with the curtains drawn in the afternoon, a tiled floor to lie on, and fresh water in more than one place.

Winters are mild, with January nights around 12°C, so cold is not a concern.

The rainy season runs from June to September, and July is usually the wettest month. Dry the coat right down to the skin after it gets wet, or it can develop skin infections.

For a new Bombay kitten, the easiest months to arrive are October to February: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
