The first week

The first week is about routine, not excitement. Feed at consistent times, let the kitten approach people in its own time rather than being passed around, and keep the diet unchanged at first.

Grooming and coat care in Thanlon

Let the weather set the schedule, not the calendar. With the green, rainy climate is mild but demands dry shelter and grooming discipline, a Siamese Kitten's coat and skin want checking more often through the extended rainy season. On a smaller coat, irritation shows up well before matting does. Keep a dry, raised resting area — prolonged damp leads to skin and paw problems.

Feeding a small cat here

Diet is simpler than most guides make it. Good food suited to a small frame, fixed mealtimes, and any change phased in over a week. Because the green, rainy climate is mild but demands dry shelter and grooming discipline, keep water available and watch intake through the extended rainy season.

The city sits at about 1,066 m above sea level, so it runs cooler than the plains around it.

Summers here are mild, peaking at about 28°C in April, so heat is rarely the problem for a Siamese that it is on the plains.

Winters are cool rather than cold, with January nights around 5°C. A light sweater helps a small Siamese on the coldest nights.

The rainy season runs from April to September, and June is usually the wettest month. Dry the coat right down to the skin after it gets wet, or it can develop skin infections.

For a new Siamese kitten, the easiest months to arrive are March: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
