Feeding a large dog here

Diet is simpler than most guides make it. Good food suited to a large frame, fixed mealtimes, and any change phased in over a week. Because the sea-influenced humidity makes ventilation and dry bedding important, keep water available and watch intake through the long monsoon.

The first week

Expect a quiet few days. Most puppies eat less and sleep more while they settle. Keep the food the same as before the move, introduce the household gradually rather than all at once, and hold off on visitors for a bit.

Is the Kanni Puppy right for Alur?

The Kanni Puppy does well in Alur, with one caveat worth knowing up front: the sea-influenced humidity makes ventilation and dry bedding important. For a loyal, shy, alert, large-sized breed that mostly changes when things happen rather than what happens. Stay current on tick and flea prevention, which thrive in warm, damp conditions.

Health and vet care in Alur

Local climate decides which problems actually turn up. Given the sea-influenced humidity makes ventilation and dry bedding important, the recurring ones here are skin and coat trouble, parasites and hydration — not the whole textbook. Keep vaccination and deworming on schedule, and book the check before the long monsoon rather than during it. Keep bedding dry and the resting area well-ventilated, especially during the monsoon.

Exercise and routine through the long monsoon in Alur

Build the day around local conditions rather than a figure from a breed chart. Alur is hottest in April, averaging 39°C in the afternoon, and stays above 38°C from April to May. A Kanni needs real protection from that because a large body sheds heat slowly: walks before 8 am and after 7 pm, a cool tiled floor or a cooler in the afternoons, fresh water in more than one place, and never a parked car.

Winters are mild, with December nights around 15°C, so cold is not a concern.

There is no long rainy season; what rain there is falls mostly in September.

For a new Kanni puppy, the easiest months to arrive are January, February, June, July, August, October, November and December: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
