The first week

The first week is about routine, not excitement. Feed at consistent times, let the puppy approach people in its own time rather than being passed around, and keep the diet unchanged at first.

Exercise and routine through the long monsoon in Kanigiri

Build the day around local conditions rather than a figure from a breed chart. In Kanigiri, moisture in the air can encourage skin and ear issues if grooming slips, which makes timing the variable that matters. Two shorter outings work better here for a breed this size. Stay current on tick and flea prevention, which thrive in warm, damp conditions.

Is the Greyhound Puppy right for Kanigiri?

Start with the weather, not the breed standard. Here moisture in the air can encourage skin and ear issues if grooming slips, and a large-sized dog feels that more than an owner expects. The Greyhound Puppy adapts well to Kanigiri on a sensible routine — shorter outings, timed away from the midday heat. Keep bedding dry and the resting area well-ventilated, especially during the monsoon.

Living with a Greyhound Puppy in Kanigiri

Homes here often have more space and independent plots, which gives a Greyhound Puppy room to move and settle in comfortably. With more room to work with, the routine can stay informal, though it should still be regular.

Grooming and coat care in Kanigiri

The aim is dry, clean skin — appearance comes second. Kanigiri being coastal tropical, moisture in the air can encourage skin and ear issues if grooming slips, so a regular brush prevents most of what would otherwise become a vet visit. Keep bedding dry and the resting area well-ventilated, especially during the monsoon.

Kanigiri is hottest in May, averaging 41°C in the afternoon, and stays above 38°C from March to May. A Greyhound needs real protection from that because a large body sheds heat slowly: walks before 8 am and after 7 pm, a cool tiled floor or a cooler in the afternoons, fresh water in more than one place, and never a parked car.

Winters are mild, with January nights around 17°C, so cold is not a concern.

Most of the year's rain falls in October. Check for ticks after every walk.

For a new Greyhound puppy, the easiest months to arrive are January, February, July, August, November and December: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
