Feeding a large dog here

Diet is simpler than most guides make it. Good food suited to a large frame, fixed mealtimes, and any change phased in over a week. Because the sea-influenced humidity makes ventilation and dry bedding important, keep water available and watch intake through the long monsoon.

Living with a Greyhound Puppy in Podili

Larger plots and open surroundings make this a comfortable setting for an active Greyhound Puppy. Owners across South India tend to find this dog a gentle, quiet, fast companion, and the settling-in is usually easier than the first week suggests.

The first week

The first week is about routine, not excitement. Feed at consistent times, let the puppy approach people in its own time rather than being passed around, and keep the diet unchanged at first.

Exercise and routine through the long monsoon in Podili

Build the day around local conditions rather than a figure from a breed chart. In Podili, the sea-influenced humidity makes ventilation and dry bedding important, which makes timing the variable that matters. Two shorter outings work better here for a breed this size. Keep bedding dry and the resting area well-ventilated, especially during the monsoon.

Is the Greyhound Puppy right for Podili?

The Greyhound Puppy does well in Podili, with one caveat worth knowing up front: the sea-influenced humidity makes ventilation and dry bedding important. For a gentle, quiet, fast, large-sized breed that mostly changes when things happen rather than what happens. Dry the coat and ears thoroughly after baths or rain to prevent fungal and skin issues.

Podili is hottest in May, averaging 41°C in the afternoon, and stays above 38°C from March to May. A Greyhound needs real protection from that because a large body sheds heat slowly: walks before 8 am and after 7 pm, a cool tiled floor or a cooler in the afternoons, fresh water in more than one place, and never a parked car.

Winters are mild, with January nights around 17°C, so cold is not a concern.

Most of the year's rain falls in October. Check for ticks after every walk.

For a new Greyhound puppy, the easiest months to arrive are January, February, July, August, November and December: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
