The long monsoon is the stretch that needs planning. The air stays humid through much of the year, so coat and skin care need attention, so keep sessions short and frequent. Consistency does more for a Persian than intensity ever will. Dry the coat and ears thoroughly after baths or rain to prevent fungal and skin issues.

Living with a Persian in Rapur

Homes here often have more space and independent plots, which gives a Persian room to move and settle in comfortably. Owners across South India tend to find this dog a family friendly, good with kids companion, and the settling-in is usually easier than the first week suggests.

Is the Persian right for Rapur?

The Persian does well in Rapur, with one caveat worth knowing up front: the air stays humid through much of the year, so coat and skin care need attention. For a family friendly, good with kids, medium-sized breed that mostly changes when things happen rather than what happens. Keep bedding dry and the resting area well-ventilated, especially during the monsoon.

Feeding a medium dog here

Feed age-appropriate food matched to a medium build, and change brands gradually rather than overnight. In coastal tropical conditions water matters as much as food — the air stays humid through much of the year, so coat and skin care need attention, and appetite often dips before anything else shows.

The first week

Expect a quiet few days. Most puppies eat less and sleep more while they settle. Keep the food the same as before the move, introduce the household gradually rather than all at once, and hold off on visitors for a bit.

Rapur is hottest in April, averaging 40°C in the afternoon, and stays above 38°C from March to May. A Persian needs real protection from that because its short muzzle makes panting less effective at shedding heat and its double coat holds heat close to the body: walks before 8 am and after 7 pm, a cool tiled floor or a cooler in the afternoons, fresh water in more than one place, and never a parked car.

Winters are mild, with January nights around 17°C, so cold is not a concern.

The rainy season runs from October to November, and October is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk; dry the coat right down to the skin after it gets wet, or it can develop skin infections.

For a new Persian puppy, the easiest months to arrive are December to January: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
