Space and the outdoors with a Kanni Puppy

Homes around Lower Subansiri usually come with their own ground, which takes the pressure off a formal exercise plan. A breed this size needs that outdoor time to be dependable, not occasional.

The first week

The first week is about routine, not excitement. Feed at consistent times, let the puppy approach people in its own time rather than being passed around, and keep the diet unchanged at first.

Exercise and routine through the cold winter season in Lower Subansiri

Build the day around local conditions rather than a figure from a breed chart. In Lower Subansiri, winters get genuinely cold, so warmth and joint care take priority, which makes timing the variable that matters. Two shorter outings work better here for a breed this size. Check paws for cracking and ice between toes during the coldest months.

Feeding a large dog here

Diet is simpler than most guides make it. Good food suited to a large frame, fixed mealtimes, and any change phased in over a week. Because winters get genuinely cold, so warmth and joint care take priority, keep water available and watch intake through the cold winter season.

Summers here are mild, peaking at about 27°C in August, so heat is rarely the problem for a Kanni that it is on the plains.

Winter nights fall to about 5°C in January. A Kanni feels that: bedding raised off the floor, a sweater or warm cover at night, and a room kept out of the draught.

The rainy season runs from April to September, and July is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk.

For a new Kanni puppy, the easiest months to arrive are October: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
