For a loyal, shy, alert, large-sized breed that mostly changes when things happen rather than what happens. Keep a dry, raised resting area — prolonged damp leads to skin and paw problems.

Feeding a large dog here

Feed age-appropriate food matched to a large build, and change brands gradually rather than overnight. In lush, wet tropical conditions water matters as much as food — the green, rainy climate is mild but demands dry shelter and grooming discipline, and appetite often dips before anything else shows.

Exercise and routine through the extended rainy season in Doom Dooma

The extended rainy season is the stretch that needs planning. The green, rainy climate is mild but demands dry shelter and grooming discipline, so split the activity across two cooler outings rather than one long session. Consistency does more for a Kanni Puppy than intensity ever will. Towel-dry after every walk in the rains and check between the toes for irritation.

Summer here peaks in August at about 34°C. That is manageable for a Kanni, but watch it closely because a large body sheds heat slowly: keep activity to the cooler ends of the day and a shaded, ventilated spot indoors.

Winters are cool rather than cold, with January nights around 10°C. A Kanni has a short, thin coat, so a light sweater helps on the coldest nights.

The rainy season runs from April to September, and July is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk.

For a new Kanni puppy, the easiest months to arrive are February, March, October and November: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
