Exercise and routine through the peak summer and winter swings in Bastar

The peak summer and winter swings is the stretch that needs planning. Extreme summer heat and a brisk winter both need planning across the year, so split the activity across two cooler outings rather than one long session. Consistency does more for a Kanni Puppy than intensity ever will. Provide shade and constant water in summer; a warm bed and blanket in winter.

The first week

The first week is about routine, not excitement. Feed at consistent times, let the puppy approach people in its own time rather than being passed around, and keep the diet unchanged at first.

Feeding a large dog here

Diet is simpler than most guides make it. Good food suited to a large frame, fixed mealtimes, and any change phased in over a week. Because extreme summer heat and a brisk winter both need planning across the year, keep water available and watch intake through the peak summer and winter swings.

Space and the outdoors with a Kanni Puppy

Homes around Bastar usually come with their own ground, which takes the pressure off a formal exercise plan. A breed this size needs that outdoor time to be dependable, not occasional.

Grooming and coat care in Bastar

The aim is dry, clean skin — appearance comes second. Bastar being hot-summer / cool-winter, extreme summer heat and a brisk winter both need planning across the year, so a regular brush prevents most of what would otherwise become a vet visit. Shift walks to early morning and late evening through the peak summer weeks.

Bastar is hottest in May, averaging 38°C in the afternoon, and stays above 38°C from April to May. A Kanni needs real protection from that because a large body sheds heat slowly: walks before 8 am and after 7 pm, a cool tiled floor or a cooler in the afternoons, fresh water in more than one place, and never a parked car.

Winters are cool rather than cold, with December nights around 11°C. A Kanni has a short, thin coat, so a light sweater helps on the coldest nights.

The rainy season runs from June to September, and August is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk.

For a new Kanni puppy, the easiest months to arrive are February, October and November: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
