Health and vet care in Gurugram

Preventive care in Gurugram is largely a matter of anticipating the dry summer months. Parasite control and skin checks earn their keep here more than they would elsewhere. The vaccination record travels with the puppy; staying on schedule is the single best habit there is. A light summer trim (for double-coated breeds, never shave to the skin) helps comfort.

The first week

The first week is about routine, not excitement. Feed at consistent times, let the puppy approach people in its own time rather than being passed around, and keep the diet unchanged at first.

Apartment living with a Kanni Puppy

Flats are the norm in Gurugram, so indoor enrichment carries real weight — puzzle feeders, chew toys, and a resting spot away from through-traffic. A breed this size needs that outdoor time to be dependable, not occasional.

Grooming and coat care in Gurugram

The aim is dry, clean skin — appearance comes second. Gurugram being hot semi-desert, the dry heat means hydration and shade matter more than almost anything else, so a regular brush prevents most of what would otherwise become a vet visit. Keep unlimited fresh water available and add a cooling mat or shaded resting spot.

Gurugram is hottest in May, averaging 43°C in the afternoon, and stays above 38°C from April to June. A Kanni needs real protection from that because a large body sheds heat slowly: walks before 8 am and after 7 pm, a cool tiled floor or a cooler in the afternoons, fresh water in more than one place, and never a parked car.

Winters are cool rather than cold, with January nights around 6°C. A Kanni has a short, thin coat, so a light sweater helps on the coldest nights.

The rainy season runs from July to August, and July is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk.

For a new Kanni puppy, the easiest months to arrive are March, September, October and November: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
