Exercise and routine through the cold winter season in Srinagar (North)

Build the day around local conditions rather than a figure from a breed chart. In Srinagar (North), the cooler climate suits thick-coated breeds but needs winter planning for others, which makes timing the variable that matters. Two shorter outings work better here for a breed this size. Older pets may need joint support as cold can stiffen movement.

The first week

Expect a quiet few days. Most puppies eat less and sleep more while they settle. Keep the food the same as before the move, introduce the household gradually rather than all at once, and hold off on visitors for a bit.

Feeding a large dog here

Feed age-appropriate food matched to a large build, and change brands gradually rather than overnight. In cool hill conditions water matters as much as food — the cooler climate suits thick-coated breeds but needs winter planning for others, and appetite often dips before anything else shows.

Is the Kanni Puppy right for Srinagar (North)?

Srinagar (North) is cool hill — the cooler climate suits thick-coated breeds but needs winter planning for others — and the Kanni Puppy is a large-sized, loyal, shy, alert breed. Those two facts decide most of what daily life looks like here. A breed this size needs its hard exercise moved to the cooler hours. Provide a warm, draught-free sleeping spot and a coat for short-haired breeds in winter.

Health and vet care in Srinagar (North)

Local climate decides which problems actually turn up. Given the cooler climate suits thick-coated breeds but needs winter planning for others, the recurring ones here are skin and coat trouble, parasites and hydration — not the whole textbook. Keep vaccination and deworming on schedule, and book the check before the cold winter season rather than during it. Older pets may need joint support as cold can stiffen movement.

The city sits at about 1,589 m above sea level, so it runs cooler than the plains around it.

Summers here are mild, peaking at about 32°C in July, so heat is rarely the problem for a Kanni that it is on the plains.

Winter nights fall to about -1°C in January. A Kanni feels that: bedding raised off the floor, a sweater or warm cover at night, and a room kept out of the draught.

There is no long rainy season; what rain there is falls mostly in March.

For a new Kanni puppy, the easiest months to arrive are May to September: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
