Feeding a large dog here

Feed age-appropriate food matched to a large build, and change brands gradually rather than overnight. In subtropical plains conditions water matters as much as food — the wide seasonal range means both cooling in summer and warmth in winter matter, and appetite often dips before anything else shows.

Is the Pointer Puppy right for Kisko?

Kisko is subtropical plains — the wide seasonal range means both cooling in summer and warmth in winter matter — and the Pointer Puppy is a large-sized, loyal, loving, confident breed. Those two facts decide most of what daily life looks like here. A breed this size needs its hard exercise moved to the cooler hours. Keep deworming and vaccination on schedule — seasonal changes can stress the immune system.

The first week

The first week is about routine, not excitement. Feed at consistent times, let the puppy approach people in its own time rather than being passed around, and keep the diet unchanged at first.

Space and the outdoors with a Pointer Puppy

Space is rarely the constraint here; the routine is what needs attention. For a loyal, loving, confident dog the fit is usually good either way.

Kisko is hottest in May, averaging 39°C in the afternoon. A Pointer needs real protection from that because a large body sheds heat slowly: walks before 8 am and after 7 pm, a cool tiled floor or a cooler in the afternoons, fresh water in more than one place, and never a parked car.

Winters are cool rather than cold, with January nights around 8°C. A Pointer has a short, thin coat, so a light sweater helps on the coldest nights.

The rainy season runs from June to September, and July is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk; dry inside the ears after baths and rain, since droopy ears trap moisture.

For a new Pointer puppy, the easiest months to arrive are March, October and November: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
