Grooming and coat care in Devikulam

The aim is dry, clean skin — appearance comes second. Devikulam being coastal tropical, the air stays humid through much of the year, so coat and skin care need attention, so a regular brush prevents most of what would otherwise become a vet visit. Dry the coat and ears thoroughly after baths or rain to prevent fungal and skin issues.

Space and the outdoors with a English Mastiff Puppy

Space is rarely the constraint here; the routine is what needs attention. For a gentle, dignified, protective dog the fit is usually good either way.

Living with a English Mastiff Puppy in Devikulam

Homes here often have more space and independent plots, which gives a English Mastiff Puppy room to move and settle in comfortably. With more room to work with, the routine can stay informal, though it should still be regular.

The first week

Expect a quiet few days. Most puppies eat less and sleep more while they settle. Keep the food the same as before the move, introduce the household gradually rather than all at once, and hold off on visitors for a bit.

Feeding a giant dog here

Diet is simpler than most guides make it. Good food suited to a giant frame, fixed mealtimes, and any change phased in over a week. Because the air stays humid through much of the year, so coat and skin care need attention, keep water available and watch intake through the long monsoon.

The city sits at about 1,594 m above sea level, so it runs cooler than the plains around it.

Summers here are mild, peaking at about 26°C in March, so heat is rarely the problem for a English Mastiff that it is on the plains.

Winters are cool rather than cold, with January nights around 10°C.

The rainy season runs from May to November, and June is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk.

For a new English Mastiff puppy, the easiest months to arrive are December to April: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
