The first week

Expect a quiet few days. Most puppies eat less and sleep more while they settle. Keep the food the same as before the move, introduce the household gradually rather than all at once, and hold off on visitors for a bit.

Grooming and coat care in Devikulam

The aim is dry, clean skin — appearance comes second. Devikulam being humid coastal, moisture in the air can encourage skin and ear issues if grooming slips, so a regular brush prevents most of what would otherwise become a vet visit. Stay current on tick and flea prevention, which thrive in warm, damp conditions.

Feeding a large dog here

Feed age-appropriate food matched to a large build, and change brands gradually rather than overnight. In humid coastal conditions water matters as much as food — moisture in the air can encourage skin and ear issues if grooming slips, and appetite often dips before anything else shows.

Space and the outdoors with a Greyhound Puppy

Space is rarely the constraint here; the routine is what needs attention. For a gentle, quiet, fast dog the fit is usually good either way.

Exercise and routine through the long monsoon in Devikulam

The long monsoon is the stretch that needs planning. Moisture in the air can encourage skin and ear issues if grooming slips, so split the activity across two cooler outings rather than one long session. Consistency does more for a Greyhound Puppy than intensity ever will. Brush regularly — humidity makes mats and tangles form faster in longer coats.

Summers here are mild, peaking at about 26°C in March, so heat is rarely the problem for a Greyhound that it is on the plains.

Winters are cool rather than cold, with January nights around 10°C.

The rainy season runs from May to November, and June is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk.

For a new Greyhound puppy, the easiest months to arrive are December to April: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
