Space and the outdoors with a Persian

Space is rarely the constraint here; the routine is what needs attention. For a family friendly, good with kids dog the fit is usually good either way.

Exercise and routine through the long monsoon in Kozhikode

Build the day around local conditions rather than a figure from a breed chart. In Kozhikode, moisture in the air can encourage skin and ear issues if grooming slips, which makes timing the variable that matters. Several brief outings suit this size better than one long one. Brush regularly — humidity makes mats and tangles form faster in longer coats.

Grooming and coat care in Kozhikode

The aim is dry, clean skin — appearance comes second. Kozhikode being humid coastal, moisture in the air can encourage skin and ear issues if grooming slips, so a regular brush prevents most of what would otherwise become a vet visit. Dry the coat and ears thoroughly after baths or rain to prevent fungal and skin issues.

Is the Persian right for Kozhikode?

Start with the weather, not the breed standard. Here moisture in the air can encourage skin and ear issues if grooming slips, and a medium-sized dog feels that more than an owner expects. The Persian adapts well to Kozhikode on a sensible routine — steady hydration and shade rather than reduced activity. Dry the coat and ears thoroughly after baths or rain to prevent fungal and skin issues.

Feeding a medium dog here

Diet is simpler than most guides make it. Good food suited to a medium frame, fixed mealtimes, and any change phased in over a week. Because moisture in the air can encourage skin and ear issues if grooming slips, keep water available and watch intake through the long monsoon.

Summers here are mild, peaking at about 32°C in March, so heat is rarely the problem for a Persian that it is on the plains.

Winters stay warm, with even January nights around 25°C, so there is no cold season to plan for.

The rainy season runs from May to October, and June is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk; dry the coat right down to the skin after it gets wet, or it can develop skin infections.

For a new Persian puppy, the easiest months to arrive are December to April: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
