Is the Pointer Puppy right for Wayanad?

Start with the weather, not the breed standard. Here the sea-influenced humidity makes ventilation and dry bedding important, and a large-sized dog feels that more than an owner expects. The Pointer Puppy adapts well to Wayanad on a sensible routine — shorter outings, timed away from the midday heat. Brush regularly — humidity makes mats and tangles form faster in longer coats.

Larger plots and open surroundings make this a comfortable setting for an active Pointer Puppy. Owners in the southern region tend to find this dog a loyal, loving, confident companion, and the settling-in is usually easier than the first week suggests.

The first week

Summer here peaks in March at about 34°C. That is manageable for a Pointer, but watch it closely because a large body sheds heat slowly: keep activity to the cooler ends of the day and a shaded, ventilated spot indoors.

Winters are mild, with January nights around 16°C, so cold is not a concern.

The rainy season runs from May to October, and June is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk; dry inside the ears after baths and rain, since droopy ears trap moisture.

For a new Pointer puppy, the easiest months to arrive are November to April: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
