Feeding a large dog here

Diet is simpler than most guides make it. Good food suited to a large frame, fixed mealtimes, and any change phased in over a week. Because the cooler climate suits thick-coated breeds but needs winter planning for others, keep water available and watch intake through the cold winter season.

Exercise and routine through the cold winter season in Sumoor

Build the day around local conditions rather than a figure from a breed chart. In Sumoor, the cooler climate suits thick-coated breeds but needs winter planning for others, which makes timing the variable that matters. Two shorter outings work better here for a breed this size. Older pets may need joint support as cold can stiffen movement.

Is the Pointer Puppy right for Sumoor?

The Pointer Puppy does well in Sumoor, with one caveat worth knowing up front: the cooler climate suits thick-coated breeds but needs winter planning for others. For a loyal, loving, confident, large-sized breed that mostly changes when things happen rather than what happens. Check paws for cracking and ice between toes during the coldest months.

Grooming and coat care in Sumoor

Let the weather set the schedule, not the calendar. With the cooler climate suits thick-coated breeds but needs winter planning for others, a Pointer Puppy's coat and skin want checking more often through the cold winter season. On a larger coat, matting and trapped moisture are what to catch early. Check paws for cracking and ice between toes during the coldest months.

The first week

The first week is about routine, not excitement. Feed at consistent times, let the puppy approach people in its own time rather than being passed around, and keep the diet unchanged at first.

Summers here are mild, peaking at about 17°C in July, so heat is rarely the problem for a Pointer that it is on the plains.

Winter nights fall to about -21°C in January. A Pointer feels that: bedding raised off the floor, a sweater or warm cover at night, and a room kept out of the draught.

There is no long rainy season; what rain there is falls mostly in August.

No month here is easy on every count for a Pointer, so plan the first two weeks around a cool, dry room rather than the calendar.
