The first week

The first week is about routine, not excitement. Feed at consistent times, let the puppy approach people in its own time rather than being passed around, and keep the diet unchanged at first.

Grooming and coat care in Kadmat

Let the weather set the schedule, not the calendar. With the sea-influenced humidity makes ventilation and dry bedding important, a Pointer Puppy's coat and skin want checking more often through the long monsoon. On a larger coat, matting and trapped moisture are what to catch early. Keep bedding dry and the resting area well-ventilated, especially during the monsoon.

Exercise and routine through the long monsoon in Kadmat

Build the day around local conditions rather than a figure from a breed chart. In Kadmat, the sea-influenced humidity makes ventilation and dry bedding important, which makes timing the variable that matters. Two shorter outings work better here for a breed this size. Dry the coat and ears thoroughly after baths or rain to prevent fungal and skin issues.

Feeding a large dog here

Feed age-appropriate food matched to a large build, and change brands gradually rather than overnight. In humid coastal conditions water matters as much as food — the sea-influenced humidity makes ventilation and dry bedding important, and appetite often dips before anything else shows.

Is the Pointer Puppy right for Kadmat?

Kadmat is humid coastal — the sea-influenced humidity makes ventilation and dry bedding important — and the Pointer Puppy is a large-sized, loyal, loving, confident breed. Those two facts decide most of what daily life looks like here. A breed this size needs its hard exercise moved to the cooler hours. Keep bedding dry and the resting area well-ventilated, especially during the monsoon.

Summers here are mild, peaking at about 30°C in May, so heat is rarely the problem for a Pointer that it is on the plains.

Winters stay warm, with even January nights around 27°C, so there is no cold season to plan for.

The rainy season runs from May to September, and June is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk; dry inside the ears after baths and rain, since droopy ears trap moisture.

For a new Pointer puppy, the easiest months to arrive are November to April: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
