Feeding a large dog here

Feed age-appropriate food matched to a large build, and change brands gradually rather than overnight. In continental plains conditions water matters as much as food — extreme summer heat and a brisk winter both need planning across the year, and appetite often dips before anything else shows.

The first week

The first week is about routine, not excitement. Feed at consistent times, let the puppy approach people in its own time rather than being passed around, and keep the diet unchanged at first.

Is the Kanni Puppy right for Amarwara?

Start with the weather, not the breed standard. Here extreme summer heat and a brisk winter both need planning across the year, and a large-sized dog feels that more than an owner expects. The Kanni Puppy adapts well to Amarwara on a sensible routine — shorter outings, timed away from the midday heat. Shift walks to early morning and late evening through the peak summer weeks.

Exercise and routine through the peak summer and winter swings in Amarwara

Build the day around local conditions rather than a figure from a breed chart. In Amarwara, extreme summer heat and a brisk winter both need planning across the year, which makes timing the variable that matters. Two shorter outings work better here for a breed this size. Watch for seasonal coat shedding as temperatures change and brush accordingly.

Amarwara is hottest in May, averaging 40°C in the afternoon, and stays above 38°C from April to May. A Kanni needs real protection from that because a large body sheds heat slowly: walks before 8 am and after 7 pm, a cool tiled floor or a cooler in the afternoons, fresh water in more than one place, and never a parked car.

Winters are cool rather than cold, with January nights around 8°C. A Kanni has a short, thin coat, so a light sweater helps on the coldest nights.

The rainy season runs from June to September, and July is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk.

For a new Kanni puppy, the easiest months to arrive are March and October: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
