The first week

The first week is about routine, not excitement. Feed at consistent times, let the puppy approach people in its own time rather than being passed around, and keep the diet unchanged at first.

Health and vet care in Dharur

Preventive care in Dharur is largely a matter of anticipating the long monsoon. Parasite control and skin checks earn their keep here more than they would elsewhere. The vaccination record travels with the puppy; staying on schedule is the single best habit there is. Keep bedding dry and the resting area well-ventilated, especially during the monsoon.

Feeding a large dog here

Diet is simpler than most guides make it. Good food suited to a large frame, fixed mealtimes, and any change phased in over a week. Because the sea-influenced humidity makes ventilation and dry bedding important, keep water available and watch intake through the long monsoon.

Space and the outdoors with a Pointer Puppy

Homes around Dharur usually come with their own ground, which takes the pressure off a formal exercise plan. A breed this size needs that outdoor time to be dependable, not occasional.

Is the Pointer Puppy right for Dharur?

The Pointer Puppy does well in Dharur, with one caveat worth knowing up front: the sea-influenced humidity makes ventilation and dry bedding important. For a loyal, loving, confident, large-sized breed that mostly changes when things happen rather than what happens. Dry the coat and ears thoroughly after baths or rain to prevent fungal and skin issues.

Dharur is hottest in May, averaging 40°C in the afternoon, and stays above 38°C from April to May. A Pointer needs real protection from that because a large body sheds heat slowly: walks before 8 am and after 7 pm, a cool tiled floor or a cooler in the afternoons, fresh water in more than one place, and never a parked car.

Winters are cool rather than cold, with December nights around 12°C. A Pointer has a short, thin coat, so a light sweater helps on the coldest nights.

The rainy season runs from July to September, and September is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk; dry inside the ears after baths and rain, since droopy ears trap moisture.

For a new Pointer puppy, the easiest months to arrive are February, October and November: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
