The first week

Expect a quiet few days. Most puppies eat less and sleep more while they settle. Keep the food the same as before the move, introduce the household gradually rather than all at once, and hold off on visitors for a bit.

Grooming and coat care in Mahabaleshwar

The aim is dry, clean skin — appearance comes second. Mahabaleshwar being humid coastal, the sea-influenced humidity makes ventilation and dry bedding important, so a regular brush prevents most of what would otherwise become a vet visit. Brush regularly — humidity makes mats and tangles form faster in longer coats.

Exercise and routine through the long monsoon in Mahabaleshwar

The long monsoon is the stretch that needs planning. The sea-influenced humidity makes ventilation and dry bedding important, so split the activity across two cooler outings rather than one long session. Consistency does more for a Kanni Puppy than intensity ever will. Stay current on tick and flea prevention, which thrive in warm, damp conditions.

Is the Kanni Puppy right for Mahabaleshwar?

Start with the weather, not the breed standard. Here the sea-influenced humidity makes ventilation and dry bedding important, and a large-sized dog feels that more than an owner expects. The Kanni Puppy adapts well to Mahabaleshwar on a sensible routine — shorter outings, timed away from the midday heat. Brush regularly — humidity makes mats and tangles form faster in longer coats.

Feeding a large dog here

Diet is simpler than most guides make it. Good food suited to a large frame, fixed mealtimes, and any change phased in over a week. Because the sea-influenced humidity makes ventilation and dry bedding important, keep water available and watch intake through the long monsoon.

Winters stay warm, with even January nights around 19°C, so there is no cold season to plan for.

The rainy season runs from June to September, and July is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk.

For a new Kanni puppy, the easiest months to arrive are November to May: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
