Exercise and routine through the long monsoon in Poladpur

Build the day around local conditions rather than a figure from a breed chart. In Poladpur, the air stays humid through much of the year, so coat and skin care need attention, which makes timing the variable that matters. Two shorter outings work better here for a breed this size. Dry the coat and ears thoroughly after baths or rain to prevent fungal and skin issues.

Feeding a large dog here

Feed age-appropriate food matched to a large build, and change brands gradually rather than overnight. In humid coastal conditions water matters as much as food — the air stays humid through much of the year, so coat and skin care need attention, and appetite often dips before anything else shows.

The first week

Expect a quiet few days. Most puppies eat less and sleep more while they settle. Keep the food the same as before the move, introduce the household gradually rather than all at once, and hold off on visitors for a bit.

Space and the outdoors with a Kanni Puppy

Homes around Poladpur usually come with their own ground, which takes the pressure off a formal exercise plan. A breed this size needs that outdoor time to be dependable, not occasional.

Living with a Kanni Puppy in Poladpur

Homes here often have more space and independent plots, which gives a Kanni Puppy room to move and settle in comfortably. Owners in the west tend to find this dog a loyal, shy, alert companion, and the settling-in is usually easier than the first week suggests.

Poladpur is hottest in April, averaging 42°C in the afternoon, and stays above 38°C from March to May. A Kanni needs real protection from that because a large body sheds heat slowly: walks before 8 am and after 7 pm, a cool tiled floor or a cooler in the afternoons, fresh water in more than one place, and never a parked car.

Winters are mild, with January nights around 16°C, so cold is not a concern.

The rainy season runs from June to September, and July is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk.

For a new Kanni puppy, the easiest months to arrive are October to January: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
