Exercise and routine through the extended rainy season in Ukhrul

The extended rainy season is the stretch that needs planning. Consistency does more for a Pointer Puppy than intensity ever will. Keep a dry, raised resting area — prolonged damp leads to skin and paw problems.

Grooming and coat care in Ukhrul

Let the weather set the schedule, not the calendar. With the green, rainy climate is mild but demands dry shelter and grooming discipline, a Pointer Puppy's coat and skin want checking more often through the extended rainy season. On a larger coat, matting and trapped moisture are what to catch early. Maintain strict tick, flea and worm control, which peak in the wet season.

The first week

The first week is about routine, not excitement. Feed at consistent times, let the puppy approach people in its own time rather than being passed around, and keep the diet unchanged at first.

The city sits at about 1,842 m above sea level, so it runs cooler than the plains around it.

Summers here are mild, peaking at about 24°C in May, so heat is rarely the problem for a Pointer that it is on the plains.

Winter nights fall to about 2°C in January. A Pointer feels that: bedding raised off the floor, a sweater or warm cover at night, and a room kept out of the draught.

The rainy season runs from June to August, and July is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk; dry inside the ears after baths and rain, since droopy ears trap moisture.

No month here is easy on every count for a Pointer, so plan the first two weeks around a cool, dry room rather than the calendar.
