Feeding a large dog here

Feed age-appropriate food matched to a large build, and change brands gradually rather than overnight. In monsoon-heavy conditions water matters as much as food — near-constant moisture means skin, paw and bedding hygiene need real attention, and appetite often dips before anything else shows.

The first week

Expect a quiet few days. Most puppies eat less and sleep more while they settle. Keep the food the same as before the move, introduce the household gradually rather than all at once, and hold off on visitors for a bit.

Exercise and routine through the extended rainy season in Demdema

The extended rainy season is the stretch that needs planning. Near-constant moisture means skin, paw and bedding hygiene need real attention, so split the activity across two cooler outings rather than one long session. Consistency does more for a Kanni Puppy than intensity ever will. Maintain strict tick, flea and worm control, which peak in the wet season.

Living with a Kanni Puppy in Demdema

With independent houses common, there is usually room for a large-sized breed to exercise at home. Owners in the region's hills tend to find this dog a loyal, shy, alert companion, and the settling-in is usually easier than the first week suggests.

Space and the outdoors with a Kanni Puppy

Homes around Demdema usually come with their own ground, which takes the pressure off a formal exercise plan. A breed this size needs that outdoor time to be dependable, not occasional.

Summer here peaks in April at about 34°C. That is manageable for a Kanni, but watch it closely because a large body sheds heat slowly: keep activity to the cooler ends of the day and a shaded, ventilated spot indoors.

Winters are cool rather than cold, with January nights around 10°C. A Kanni has a short, thin coat, so a light sweater helps on the coldest nights.

The rainy season runs from April to October, and July is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk.

For a new Kanni puppy, the easiest months to arrive are February, March, November and December: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
