Several brief outings suit this size better than one long one. Keep a dry, raised resting area — prolonged damp leads to skin and paw problems.

Is the Cockapoo Puppy right for Mawkynrew?

Start with the weather, not the breed standard. Here rainfall is among the highest in the country, so wet-weather care is essential, and a small-sized dog feels that more than an owner expects. The Cockapoo Puppy adapts well to Mawkynrew on a sensible routine — steady hydration and shade rather than reduced activity. Maintain strict tick, flea and worm control, which peak in the wet season.

The first week

Expect a quiet few days. Most puppies eat less and sleep more while they settle. Keep the food the same as before the move, introduce the household gradually rather than all at once, and hold off on visitors for a bit.

The city sits at about 1,520 m above sea level, so it runs cooler than the plains around it.

Summers here are mild, peaking at about 23°C in August, so heat is rarely the problem for a Cockapoo that it is on the plains.

Winter nights fall to about 3°C in January. A Cockapoo feels that: bedding raised off the floor, a sweater or warm cover at night, and a room kept out of the draught.

The rainy season runs from April to October, and June is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk.

No month here is easy on every count for a Cockapoo, so plan the first two weeks around a cool, dry room rather than the calendar.
