Feeding a large dog here

Diet is simpler than most guides make it. Good food suited to a large frame, fixed mealtimes, and any change phased in over a week. Because near-constant moisture means skin, paw and bedding hygiene need real attention, keep water available and watch intake through the extended rainy season.

The first week

Expect a quiet few days. Most puppies eat less and sleep more while they settle. Keep the food the same as before the move, introduce the household gradually rather than all at once, and hold off on visitors for a bit.

Exercise and routine through the extended rainy season in Mawkyrwat

Build the day around local conditions rather than a figure from a breed chart. In Mawkyrwat, near-constant moisture means skin, paw and bedding hygiene need real attention, which makes timing the variable that matters. Two shorter outings work better here for a breed this size. Ensure good airflow indoors to keep the coat and bedding from staying damp.

Is the Pointer Puppy right for Mawkyrwat?

Mawkyrwat is lush, wet tropical — near-constant moisture means skin, paw and bedding hygiene need real attention — and the Pointer Puppy is a large-sized, loyal, loving, confident breed. Those two facts decide most of what daily life looks like here. A breed this size needs its hard exercise moved to the cooler hours. Towel-dry after every walk in the rains and check between the toes for irritation.

Space and the outdoors with a Pointer Puppy

Homes around Mawkyrwat usually come with their own ground, which takes the pressure off a formal exercise plan. A breed this size needs that outdoor time to be dependable, not occasional.

The city sits at about 1,524 m above sea level, so it runs cooler than the plains around it.

Summers here are mild, peaking at about 23°C in August, so heat is rarely the problem for a Pointer that it is on the plains.

Winter nights fall to about 3°C in January. A Pointer feels that: bedding raised off the floor, a sweater or warm cover at night, and a room kept out of the draught.

The rainy season runs from April to October, and June is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk; dry inside the ears after baths and rain, since droopy ears trap moisture.

No month here is easy on every count for a Pointer, so plan the first two weeks around a cool, dry room rather than the calendar.
