Larger plots and open surroundings make this a comfortable setting for an active Pointer Puppy. With more room to work with, the routine can stay informal, though it should still be regular.

The first week

Expect a quiet few days. Most puppies eat less and sleep more while they settle. Keep the food the same as before the move, introduce the household gradually rather than all at once, and hold off on visitors for a bit.

Grooming and coat care in Ghathashi

The aim is dry, clean skin — appearance comes second. Ghathashi being lush, wet tropical, rainfall is among the highest in the country, so wet-weather care is essential, so a regular brush prevents most of what would otherwise become a vet visit. Ensure good airflow indoors to keep the coat and bedding from staying damp.

Exercise and routine through the extended rainy season in Ghathashi

The extended rainy season is the stretch that needs planning. Rainfall is among the highest in the country, so wet-weather care is essential, so split the activity across two cooler outings rather than one long session. Consistency does more for a Pointer Puppy than intensity ever will. Ensure good airflow indoors to keep the coat and bedding from staying damp.

Space and the outdoors with a Pointer Puppy

Space is rarely the constraint here; the routine is what needs attention. For a loyal, loving, confident dog the fit is usually good either way.

Summers here are mild, peaking at about 31°C in June, so heat is rarely the problem for a Pointer that it is on the plains.

Winters are cool rather than cold, with January nights around 8°C. A Pointer has a short, thin coat, so a light sweater helps on the coldest nights.

The rainy season runs from May to September, and July is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk; dry inside the ears after baths and rain, since droopy ears trap moisture.

For a new Pointer puppy, the easiest months to arrive are March, October and November: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
