The first week

The first week is about routine, not excitement. Feed at consistent times, let the puppy approach people in its own time rather than being passed around, and keep the diet unchanged at first.

Space and the outdoors with a Pointer Puppy

Homes around Mopong usually come with their own ground, which takes the pressure off a formal exercise plan. A breed this size needs that outdoor time to be dependable, not occasional.

Feeding a large dog here

Diet is simpler than most guides make it. Good food suited to a large frame, fixed mealtimes, and any change phased in over a week. Because near-constant moisture means skin, paw and bedding hygiene need real attention, keep water available and watch intake through the extended rainy season.

Is the Pointer Puppy right for Mopong?

Mopong is high-rainfall tropical — near-constant moisture means skin, paw and bedding hygiene need real attention — and the Pointer Puppy is a large-sized, loyal, loving, confident breed. Those two facts decide most of what daily life looks like here. A breed this size needs its hard exercise moved to the cooler hours. Maintain strict tick, flea and worm control, which peak in the wet season.

Exercise and routine through the extended rainy season in Mopong

Build the day around local conditions rather than a figure from a breed chart. In Mopong, near-constant moisture means skin, paw and bedding hygiene need real attention, which makes timing the variable that matters. Two shorter outings work better here for a breed this size. Towel-dry after every walk in the rains and check between the toes for irritation.

The city sits at about 994 m above sea level, so it runs cooler than the plains around it.

Summers here are mild, peaking at about 29°C in June, so heat is rarely the problem for a Pointer that it is on the plains.

Winters are cool rather than cold, with January nights around 7°C. A Pointer has a short, thin coat, so a light sweater helps on the coldest nights.

The rainy season runs from April to September, and July is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk; dry inside the ears after baths and rain, since droopy ears trap moisture.

For a new Pointer puppy, the easiest months to arrive are March, October and November: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
