The first week

Expect a quiet few days. Most puppies eat less and sleep more while they settle. Keep the food the same as before the move, introduce the household gradually rather than all at once, and hold off on visitors for a bit.

Grooming and coat care in Phor

The aim is dry, clean skin — appearance comes second. Phor being lush, wet tropical, the green, rainy climate is mild but demands dry shelter and grooming discipline, so a regular brush prevents most of what would otherwise become a vet visit. Keep a dry, raised resting area — prolonged damp leads to skin and paw problems.

Is the Pointer Puppy right for Phor?

Start with the weather, not the breed standard. Here the green, rainy climate is mild but demands dry shelter and grooming discipline, and a large-sized dog feels that more than an owner expects. The Pointer Puppy adapts well to Phor on a sensible routine — shorter outings, timed away from the midday heat. Keep a dry, raised resting area — prolonged damp leads to skin and paw problems.

Space and the outdoors with a Pointer Puppy

Space is rarely the constraint here; the routine is what needs attention. For a loyal, loving, confident dog the fit is usually good either way.

Feeding a large dog here

Feed age-appropriate food matched to a large build, and change brands gradually rather than overnight. In lush, wet tropical conditions water matters as much as food — the green, rainy climate is mild but demands dry shelter and grooming discipline, and appetite often dips before anything else shows.

The city sits at about 1,459 m above sea level, so it runs cooler than the plains around it.

Summers here are mild, peaking at about 27°C in May, so heat is rarely the problem for a Pointer that it is on the plains.

Winter nights fall to about 4°C in January. A Pointer feels that: bedding raised off the floor, a sweater or warm cover at night, and a room kept out of the draught.

The rainy season runs from June to August, and July is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk; dry inside the ears after baths and rain, since droopy ears trap moisture.

For a new Pointer puppy, the easiest months to arrive are April and October: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
