Is the Kanni Puppy right for Sungro?

Sungro is lush, wet tropical — near-constant moisture means skin, paw and bedding hygiene need real attention — and the Kanni Puppy is a large-sized, loyal, shy, alert breed. Those two facts decide most of what daily life looks like here. A breed this size needs its hard exercise moved to the cooler hours. Keep a dry, raised resting area — prolonged damp leads to skin and paw problems.

Health and vet care in Sungro

Preventive care in Sungro is largely a matter of anticipating the extended rainy season. Parasite control and skin checks earn their keep here more than they would elsewhere. The vaccination record travels with the puppy; staying on schedule is the single best habit there is. Towel-dry after every walk in the rains and check between the toes for irritation.

The first week

The first week is about routine, not excitement. Feed at consistent times, let the puppy approach people in its own time rather than being passed around, and keep the diet unchanged at first.

The city sits at about 915 m above sea level, so it runs cooler than the plains around it.

Summers here are mild, peaking at about 29°C in June, so heat is rarely the problem for a Kanni that it is on the plains.

Winters are cool rather than cold, with January nights around 7°C. A Kanni has a short, thin coat, so a light sweater helps on the coldest nights.

The rainy season runs from April to September, and July is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk.

For a new Kanni puppy, the easiest months to arrive are March and October: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
