Feeding a giant dog here

Diet is simpler than most guides make it. Good food suited to a giant frame, fixed mealtimes, and any change phased in over a week. Because the air stays humid through much of the year, so coat and skin care need attention, keep water available and watch intake through the long monsoon.

The first week

Expect a quiet few days. Most puppies eat less and sleep more while they settle. Keep the food the same as before the move, introduce the household gradually rather than all at once, and hold off on visitors for a bit.

Space and the outdoors with a Neapolitan Mastiff Puppy

Space is rarely the constraint here; the routine is what needs attention. For a protective, calm, loyal dog the fit is usually good either way.

Larger plots and open surroundings make this a comfortable setting for an active Neapolitan Mastiff Puppy. With more room to work with, the routine can stay informal, though it should still be regular.

Exercise and routine through the long monsoon in Kodinga

The long monsoon is the stretch that needs planning. The air stays humid through much of the year, so coat and skin care need attention, so split the activity across two cooler outings rather than one long session. Consistency does more for a Neapolitan Mastiff Puppy than intensity ever will. Stay current on tick and flea prevention, which thrive in warm, damp conditions.

The city sits at about 941 m above sea level, so it runs cooler than the plains around it.

Summer here peaks in April at about 36°C. That is manageable for a Neapolitan Mastiff, but watch it closely because its short muzzle makes panting less effective at shedding heat and a giant body sheds heat slowly: keep activity to the cooler ends of the day and a shaded, ventilated spot indoors.

Winters are cool rather than cold, with January nights around 10°C.

The rainy season runs from June to October, and August is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk.

For a new Neapolitan Mastiff puppy, the easiest months to arrive are November to February: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
