Feeding a large dog here

Feed age-appropriate food matched to a large build, and change brands gradually rather than overnight. In coastal tropical conditions water matters as much as food — the sea-influenced humidity makes ventilation and dry bedding important, and appetite often dips before anything else shows.

Is the Mudhol Hound Puppy right for Mathili?

Mathili is coastal tropical — the sea-influenced humidity makes ventilation and dry bedding important — and the Mudhol Hound Puppy is a large-sized, alert, loyal, athletic breed. Those two facts decide most of what daily life looks like here. A breed this size needs its hard exercise moved to the cooler hours. Dry the coat and ears thoroughly after baths or rain to prevent fungal and skin issues.

Grooming and coat care in Mathili

Let the weather set the schedule, not the calendar. With the sea-influenced humidity makes ventilation and dry bedding important, a Mudhol Hound Puppy's coat and skin want checking more often through the long monsoon. On a larger coat, matting and trapped moisture are what to catch early. Dry the coat and ears thoroughly after baths or rain to prevent fungal and skin issues.

Space and the outdoors with a Mudhol Hound Puppy

Space is rarely the constraint here; the routine is what needs attention. For a alert, loyal, athletic dog the fit is usually good either way.

The first week

Expect a quiet few days. Most puppies eat less and sleep more while they settle. Keep the food the same as before the move, introduce the household gradually rather than all at once, and hold off on visitors for a bit.

Mathili is hottest in April, averaging 39°C in the afternoon, and stays above 38°C from April to May. A Mudhol Hound needs real protection from that because a large body sheds heat slowly: walks before 8 am and after 7 pm, a cool tiled floor or a cooler in the afternoons, fresh water in more than one place, and never a parked car.

Winters are mild, with December nights around 13°C, so cold is not a concern.

The rainy season runs from June to September, and August is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk.

For a new Mudhol Hound puppy, the easiest months to arrive are November to February: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
