Is the Greyhound Puppy right for Nandankanan?

The Greyhound Puppy does well in Nandankanan, with one caveat worth knowing up front: the air stays humid through much of the year, so coat and skin care need attention. For a gentle, quiet, fast, large-sized breed that mostly changes when things happen rather than what happens. Brush regularly — humidity makes mats and tangles form faster in longer coats.

Feeding a large dog here

Diet is simpler than most guides make it. Good food suited to a large frame, fixed mealtimes, and any change phased in over a week. Because the air stays humid through much of the year, so coat and skin care need attention, keep water available and watch intake through the long monsoon.

Health and vet care in Nandankanan

Preventive care in Nandankanan is largely a matter of anticipating the long monsoon. Parasite control and skin checks earn their keep here more than they would elsewhere. The vaccination record travels with the puppy; staying on schedule is the single best habit there is. Dry the coat and ears thoroughly after baths or rain to prevent fungal and skin issues.

The first week

Expect a quiet few days. Most puppies eat less and sleep more while they settle. Keep the food the same as before the move, introduce the household gradually rather than all at once, and hold off on visitors for a bit.

Space and the outdoors with a Greyhound Puppy

Space is rarely the constraint here; the routine is what needs attention. For a gentle, quiet, fast dog the fit is usually good either way.

Nandankanan is hottest in April, averaging 40°C in the afternoon, and stays above 38°C from April to May. A Greyhound needs real protection from that because a large body sheds heat slowly: walks before 8 am and after 7 pm, a cool tiled floor or a cooler in the afternoons, fresh water in more than one place, and never a parked car.

Winters are mild, with January nights around 13°C, so cold is not a concern.

The rainy season runs from June to October, and July is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk.

For a new Greyhound puppy, the easiest months to arrive are November to February: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
