Grooming and coat care in Amet

Let the weather set the schedule, not the calendar. With summers are long and intense, so heat management is the single biggest priority, a Kanni Puppy's coat and skin want checking more often through the dry summer months. On a larger coat, matting and trapped moisture are what to catch early. A light summer trim (for double-coated breeds, never shave to the skin) helps comfort.

Amet is hottest in May, averaging 40°C in the afternoon, and stays above 38°C from May to June. A Kanni needs real protection from that because a large body sheds heat slowly: walks before 8 am and after 7 pm, a cool tiled floor or a cooler in the afternoons, fresh water in more than one place, and never a parked car.

Winters are cool rather than cold, with January nights around 7°C. A Kanni has a short, thin coat, so a light sweater helps on the coldest nights.

The rainy season runs from July to August, and August is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk.

For a new Kanni puppy, the easiest months to arrive are March, September, October and November: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
