Is the Kanni Puppy right for Girwa?

Girwa is warm and arid — the dry heat means hydration and shade matter more than almost anything else — and the Kanni Puppy is a large-sized, loyal, shy, alert breed. Those two facts decide most of what daily life looks like here. A breed this size needs its hard exercise moved to the cooler hours. A light summer trim (for double-coated breeds, never shave to the skin) helps comfort.

Space and the outdoors with a Kanni Puppy

Homes around Girwa usually come with their own ground, which takes the pressure off a formal exercise plan. A breed this size needs that outdoor time to be dependable, not occasional.

Grooming and coat care in Girwa

The aim is dry, clean skin — appearance comes second. Girwa being warm and arid, the dry heat means hydration and shade matter more than almost anything else, so a regular brush prevents most of what would otherwise become a vet visit. A light summer trim (for double-coated breeds, never shave to the skin) helps comfort.

The first week

Expect a quiet few days. Most puppies eat less and sleep more while they settle. Keep the food the same as before the move, introduce the household gradually rather than all at once, and hold off on visitors for a bit.

Feeding a large dog here

Feed age-appropriate food matched to a large build, and change brands gradually rather than overnight. In warm and arid conditions water matters as much as food — the dry heat means hydration and shade matter more than almost anything else, and appetite often dips before anything else shows.

Girwa is hottest in May, averaging 42°C in the afternoon, and stays above 38°C from April to June. A Kanni needs real protection from that because a large body sheds heat slowly: walks before 8 am and after 7 pm, a cool tiled floor or a cooler in the afternoons, fresh water in more than one place, and never a parked car.

Winters are cool rather than cold, with January nights around 6°C. A Kanni has a short, thin coat, so a light sweater helps on the coldest nights.

The rainy season runs from July to August, and August is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk.

For a new Kanni puppy, the easiest months to arrive are March, September, October and November: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
