Feeding a large dog here

Diet is simpler than most guides make it. Good food suited to a large frame, fixed mealtimes, and any change phased in over a week. Because daytime temperatures climb high for much of the year, which shapes daily routines, keep water available and watch intake through the dry summer months.

Space and the outdoors with a Greyhound Puppy

Space is rarely the constraint here; the routine is what needs attention. For a gentle, quiet, fast dog the fit is usually good either way.

Living with a Greyhound Puppy in Kalwar

Larger plots and open surroundings make this a comfortable setting for an active Greyhound Puppy. With more room to work with, the routine can stay informal, though it should still be regular.

Exercise and routine through the dry summer months in Kalwar

The dry summer months is the stretch that needs planning. Daytime temperatures climb high for much of the year, which shapes daily routines, so split the activity across two cooler outings rather than one long session. Consistency does more for a Greyhound Puppy than intensity ever will. Keep unlimited fresh water available and add a cooling mat or shaded resting spot.

The first week

Expect a quiet few days. Most puppies eat less and sleep more while they settle. Keep the food the same as before the move, introduce the household gradually rather than all at once, and hold off on visitors for a bit.

Kalwar is hottest in May, averaging 41°C in the afternoon, and stays above 38°C from April to June. A Greyhound needs real protection from that because a large body sheds heat slowly: walks before 8 am and after 7 pm, a cool tiled floor or a cooler in the afternoons, fresh water in more than one place, and never a parked car.

Winters are cool rather than cold, with January nights around 7°C.

The rainy season runs from July to August, and August is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk.

For a new Greyhound puppy, the easiest months to arrive are September to March: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
