Exercise and routine through the long monsoon in Kandachipuram

Build the day around local conditions rather than a figure from a breed chart. In Kandachipuram, the sea-influenced humidity makes ventilation and dry bedding important, which makes timing the variable that matters. Two shorter outings work better here for a breed this size. Dry the coat and ears thoroughly after baths or rain to prevent fungal and skin issues.

Feeding a large dog here

Feed age-appropriate food matched to a large build, and change brands gradually rather than overnight. In coastal tropical conditions water matters as much as food — the sea-influenced humidity makes ventilation and dry bedding important, and appetite often dips before anything else shows.

Is the Kanni Puppy right for Kandachipuram?

The Kanni Puppy does well in Kandachipuram, with one caveat worth knowing up front: the sea-influenced humidity makes ventilation and dry bedding important. For a loyal, shy, alert, large-sized breed that mostly changes when things happen rather than what happens. Brush regularly — humidity makes mats and tangles form faster in longer coats.

Summer here peaks in April at about 37°C. That is manageable for a Kanni, but watch it closely because a large body sheds heat slowly: keep activity to the cooler ends of the day and a shaded, ventilated spot indoors.

Winters stay warm, with even January nights around 18°C, so there is no cold season to plan for.

The rainy season runs from October to November, and November is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk.

For a new Kanni puppy, the easiest months to arrive are January, February, July, August and December: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
