Grooming and coat care in Manur

The aim is dry, clean skin — appearance comes second. Manur being humid coastal, the air stays humid through much of the year, so coat and skin care need attention, so a regular brush prevents most of what would otherwise become a vet visit. Keep bedding dry and the resting area well-ventilated, especially during the monsoon.

The first week

The first week is about routine, not excitement. Feed at consistent times, let the puppy approach people in its own time rather than being passed around, and keep the diet unchanged at first.

Feeding a large dog here

Diet is simpler than most guides make it. Good food suited to a large frame, fixed mealtimes, and any change phased in over a week. Because the air stays humid through much of the year, so coat and skin care need attention, keep water available and watch intake through the long monsoon.

Is the Pointer Puppy right for Manur?

Start with the weather, not the breed standard. Here the air stays humid through much of the year, so coat and skin care need attention, and a large-sized dog feels that more than an owner expects. The Pointer Puppy adapts well to Manur on a sensible routine — shorter outings, timed away from the midday heat. Keep bedding dry and the resting area well-ventilated, especially during the monsoon.

Living with a Pointer Puppy in Manur

Homes here often have more space and independent plots, which gives a Pointer Puppy room to move and settle in comfortably. Owners throughout peninsular India tend to find this dog a loyal, loving, confident companion, and the settling-in is usually easier than the first week suggests.

Summer here peaks in April at about 37°C. That is manageable for a Pointer, but watch it closely because a large body sheds heat slowly: keep activity to the cooler ends of the day and a shaded, ventilated spot indoors.

Winters are mild, with January nights around 18°C, so cold is not a concern.

Most of the year's rain falls in October. Check for ticks after every walk; dry inside the ears after baths and rain, since droopy ears trap moisture.

For a new Pointer puppy, the easiest months to arrive are January, February, May, June, July, August, September and December: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
